Getting Started

An overview of Ase2UE and the fastest path to importing your first Aseprite asset.

Overview

Ase2UE is an Unreal Engine editor plugin that imports Aseprite art directly into Paper2D. It turns your .aseprite source files into native sprites, spritesheets, flipbooks, and slices.

The plugin is built around a single Ase2 source asset that tracks your file, so every change in Aseprite is a single reimport away from being live in Unreal.

Requirements

  • Unreal Engine 5.x with the Paper2D plugin enabled
  • A local installation of Aseprite
  • An .aseprite or .ase source file

Quick start

Once installed and configured, importing your first asset takes four steps:

  • Enable Ase2UE in the Plugins window
  • Set the Aseprite executable path in project settings
  • Create an Ase2 source asset from your .aseprite file
  • Import sprites, flipbooks, and slices from the source asset
